reading assignment

Who would the book appeal to?
mainly teens in highschool and college students, but could be anyone who is interested in memoirs of all types or african american history.
What about it is appealing?

all the things that now we dont see or realize that often, and in the book realizing how bad things actually were...segregation and her not thinking white people are people.
What obstacles should student readers of this book be ready for?

just the fact of the book starting off really boring but gets more interesting as you go on.
What would students need to know about in order to understand the book?

understand some of things that were going on in the time period instead of just reading the bood and not knowing how things were back then.
What issues does the book deal with that students might be interested in discussing?
Is there any “mature” content in the book? If so, what kind of content? How would you deal with such content in class?

the book deals with segregation and the difference of how different races or classes live.

My Opinon

I can see myself not really liking this book maybe because of its name or its just not very attractive to me when i see the cover. They tell me not to judge a book by its cover but this one seems like it gives a whole new meaning to the statement. I feel as if this book is going to be long and boring. I think this is one of those books that really exaggerate on the plot and really dont have a clear cut meaning.

My expectations

I'm not sure what i really expect from this book...... I have read many of Maya angelou's poems but not her books. Her poems are amazing and im excited and anticipating to read this book.... i kinda expect a new perspecitive when I'm done reading this book..... I believe this book is suppose to talk about her life and the struggles she went through growing up.......... os happy i have the chance to read this book...............................................................................................................
Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Expectations/opinion

ExPeCtAtIoNs:
~get reading done on time (around 20pgs a day)
~lets all make sure we participate in group work/conversations

Haven't read any memoirs besides This Boy's Life and now I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. If we all get the reading done on time this will be a lot easier for all of us to have the discussions.

Mr.Expectations

My group chose this book, i didnt really want to read it but 3 to 1 vote lol. I have read a couple of memoirs before, i'm hoping that it will be better than I think it will be.

Expectations:
-reading roughly 20 pages a day and not reading weekends
-participating in group discussions and making sure people stay caught up with the book.
